Duke Long’s Top 10 Most Influential Online Commercial Real Estate People 2018.

Duke Long’s Top 10 Most Influential Online Commercial Real Estate People 2018.

Yes, it’s that time of year once again.

Here we are now into our ninth year.

How do you get to be one of “the most influential” people in commercial real estate?

Relentless work and commitment to this business, our business of commercial real estate.

Here they are in order!

1. Adam Stanley: CIO Cushman & Wakefield Chicago, Illinois.

BOOM! Yea, that’s right here he is again at the top of the list. The man is a machine and if you are not following him you are indeed missing out. Moderating, leading and always willing to give pinpoint opinions from his chair on any panel. Traveling and connecting #CRE with a thoughtful and community mindset. Of course, he went to Wharton, who hasn’t? He is a serious Foodie and has some weird obsession with The Arsenal Football Club. Is that real football? He has been recognized as 2015 CIO100 by CIO Magazine, Top 25 CTOs by InfoWorld and now more important than any of those media things he is Number 1 on my list. Now that’s an accomplishment.

2. Casey Flannery: Office and Industrial Broker at Cushman & Wakefield Memphis, Tennesse.

Her Twitter profile states right up front that she runs on donuts and coffee, that should be enough reason to follow right there. One of the founders and moderators of #CREChat and blatantly pushing out all things millennial. Writing, posting hilarious memes and sending Thank You #100 videos just for being mentioned. Standing out as a strong voice for all things that are THE NEXT in commercial real estate.

3. Melissa Alexander: Industrial Real Estate Brokerage Professional Foundry Commercial Nashville, Tennesse.

Advocating all things #CRE and #Women because that’s exactly what she is. Major league networker and online conversation starter. Interacting, thought-provoking and with thirteen years in the business. Oh, and she will send a handwritten card because it’s the personal touch that matters.

4. Matt Smith: Vice President RealNex San Diego, California.

The originator and creator of the Duke Long Look Alike Halloween Costume Contest. I should just stop right there. Has the tagline “Living The Dream” in his Twitter bio and I have completely stolen it from him. His database and reach across the #CRE globe are endless. Truly one of the nicest human beings on the planet and a natural born Sales GOD!

5. Adam Balsam: Global Meetings, Innovation, Smart City, Real Estate Reed Exhibitions Dusseldorf, Germany.

One of the most personable people you will ever meet and you will meet him because he is everywhere and will walk right up to you and shake your hand like he has known you forever. Sharing, Tweeting and using Linkedin like the tool it is and the weapon it can be. Way east coast of the US at heart but global because that’s how you take over the world.

6. Elie Finegold: Real Estate and Technology Entrepreneur Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas.

My nickname for him is The Savant and he is the very definition of that. Just listen and follow his Twitter feed and you will find out why. I could write books and books about how he sees the world and maybe I will. Interesting little story. He went to Harvard and received a music degree. Nothing so strange in that except that Harvard did not have the music degree he wanted so he told them to create one and they did. That’s pure Elie.

7. Antony Slumbers: Real Estate Technology Innovation Guildford, United Kingdom.

Speaking, opinionating, writing thoughtful and succinct prodigious amounts of content. A huge proponent of AI and wants to take credit for creating the term and hashtag #spaceasaservice uh but maybe I might be the one? Does it really matter as long as he pays up on our bet with some amazing Scotch? How do you go from art history to property management and software development? Click on his website and you will see just how spectacularly he has made it all work.

8. Susan Freeman: Partner at Mishcon de Reya London, United Kingdom.

With the Twitter Handle of PropertyShe, how can she not make the list? She is ranked in Property Week’s Women’s Power List, which pronounced her as “a world-class networker” with “a contact book full of CEOs”. Legal 500 describes her as being “immensely well-connected”. Estates Gazette describes Susan as the “consummate hostess and business networker.” She has recently been included in Bisnow’s 51 MOST INFLUENTIAL WOMEN IN U.K. REAL ESTATE list. Susan is ranked number 31 out of 100 individuals singled out for their contribution to PropTech in the 2016 PropTech influencers list produced by software provider, Onalytica. But none of that matters because now she is on my list!

9. Paul Unger: Publisher at Place North West and PlaceTech Manchester, United Kingdom.

Advocating all things Architecture & Design, Construction, Finance, Investment, Planning, Property Management, Sales & Lettings, and Sustainability. Using Twitter, LinkedIn, Video and the written word to put all of that in amazing perspective. #Proptech events organizer. Startup competition creator and just look at all the content on his website. Funny and poignant Twitter feed that’s so very local but ultimately global.

10. Michael Lagazo: Vice President at SRS Real Estate Partners San Diego, California.

On Twitter since 2008 and with over 96k tweets so maybe he should be his own list. He is one of the originals and is still cranking out great content. Retail-focused but that’s not even a small part of his depth, there is nothing #CRE and beyond that, he won’t touch. He is an Army man so of course, that gets him extra points with me. Has a serious and community-driven side and stands where he stands. How can you not like that? Of all the places on the planet, he and I first met in Disney Land. I’m not sure how to even begin to explain that.
